CORNELIUS — A long period of higher-than-average temperatures and drier-than-normal months has led to lower levels in Lake Norman, but climate is only part of the equation for determining the part of the coast that is exposed. Duke Energy said that by reducing lakes, it will allow them to have more storage when rain and runoff occur from Ian. The elevated radio levels were determined by an external laboratory in Lake Norman, Mountain Island Lake and Lake Wylie.
